How Many Skipped 64Bit System for CS5?

Following on from my last thread..How Many Skipped Premiere CS4 And are Waiting For CS5? , I am looking at the Dell website for my next purchase in the new year.

I know you get what you pay for but in real terms when it comes to Rendering faster....how much quicker would 12gig Ram v 24gig Ram.
Difference in price is 4.5 for a double speed increase in RAM.

Obviously for HD Editing 4GB Nvidia Quadro FX5800 would be better than the 1.5GB Nvidia Quadro FX4800.

To me the Holy Grail is Rendering Speed.

EDIT* Sorry but the heading is wrong.

For me the holy grail is NOT having to render until final output to disc.
That is where more ram comes in... with more ram, the frames can buffer and play back more smoothly.

Amen. You can render while you sleep, you can't edit while you sleep.

24 gb ram though? That's.... excessive. Do OSs really know how to handle all that memory?

get a mac. that will solve all your problems. adobe sucks ballz and has for the past decade since i began using it. once you go mac you never go back

I think 100 gigs is the max.
I could be wrong however.

If it were me, I'd save money on getting that much RAM and put it into the CPU.

So, you can edit native AVCHD files? Nope... oops... Mac's have no issues huh? Funny how many posts there asking for help in the FCP forum as well as the other forums..

With Windows 7 the gap has narrowed quite a bit between Mac and PC.. Now it's more of a personal choice.

Personally, I prefer to build my own PC which I can do much better than any company I've seen online. I don't mind doing research for components.. in fact, I LIKE to research and I LIKE to build my own PC.. I know what is in it.
I could build a PC and run the Mac OS... but I have no need for it with Windows 7-64 bit.

That's my exact same philosophy. Plus, I simply have never liked the Mac interface. AND... every Mac I have ever used has been a buggy POS. Other's mileage may and probably does vary, but Macs are not the end all to be all. I was talking with someone the other day who works at the Microsoft main campus, and he made a funny statement... he knows a bunch of coworkers who are buying Macbook Pro's... then wiping the hard drive and installing Windows Vista or 7.

For most folks, there is simply no need to spend twice as much for a Mac. Notice I said *need*. Many want to, and that's great. I just don't see the point personally when I can spend half as much and get a machine that is every bit as reliable and uses an interface that doesn't drive me batty.

Great tips folks and for a while I considered going Mac but won't for two big reasons.

Windows 7 64bit + The fact I have spent thousands on PC Software.

It is late here so forgive me if I have asked you this before AT but what is your current/ideal system with about euro 5k or $7k?

Holy schnikey... $7K USD? Wow... Let's see.... I built this a couple months ago:

i7 920 @ 3.4ghz on MSI mobo, 12gb OCZ triple channel memory, GeForce 512mb, LG Blu-Ray BURNER... 500GB WD system drive, two 1TB SATA drives for video, Lian-Li all aluminum case (sweet), Lian-Li 750W PSU also very nice. TWO 21.5" LCD monitors.... Win 7 premium 64bit, keyboard, mouse... for get this... $1,500 total shipped!

For 7K I could build two system that are even faster than this one! I'd put in ASUS mobos... better GFX cards, and TWO 24" monitors for under 7K.

While we are here in the Premiere forum... I wanna mention how I like that you can output the timeline to the second port on your video card... Kinda neat... I used Edius for years with dedicated hardware to output the timeline, and when I started using P-Pro CS4.1 I at first tried dragging the windows to the second monitor to make it feel more like Edius.. but once I found out that I could use my 2nd monitor to view the output, I just edit on one monitor and view results on the second.
