How many is too many hours on video head?

I'm interested in buying a used DVX100a on ebay and am researching what would be a safe number on how many hours were used on video heads?
Also is there a way to find out if the camera is stolen, I can often see that people are asking for a serial number.
Once I get the serial number how do I reference it? Should I contact Panasonic directly (do they keep track?).
I'm in Canada and am interested in the NTSC version any usefull directions to US or Canada please.

Also any thoughts on this matter please.

WIth a 100A if you could get one around the 1-300 hour mark its pretty safe unless its been in hard wearing conditions. Sorry not sure about the serial number.

Hi there
I heard the clock wasn´t so good on the 100E. I use one and since last week I have only used it a total of 3-4 hours but my clock says 10 hours. This is something that was asked elsewhere recently and I`m sorry I don´t have the link at hand, but I was assured that almost double the expected 1000hours would be safe enough on my camera due to the problem of the DVX clock. 1-300 may in fact be much less than that.
Don`t know about the problem with the serial number I´m afraid.

The DVX counts whatever time there is a tape inside the camera and a battery attached to it to the hour counter. Even when the camera is off. That can lead to incredibly inflated tape head hours if you forget to take out a tape after a shoot and it's hooked up to a 5600 maH battery. Mine for example, not a particularly bad case, but my camera says around 70 hours when I know in reality it's probably closer to 40 hours "real" usage time cuz there was a day or two I left the tape inside and forgot.

Mine definately has inflated numbers, I brought that query up in a post a few weeks ago.
I've got a lot of use out of mine in less than a year, but not 135 hours as it states. If it's cuz I left a tape in the deck with bat still hooked up, maybe...but I dunno.

guys, your fine, ive seen friends with over 500 hours on their cameras and they are fine.. quit worrying.
