how long....

Re: how long....

Make sure you keep an eye on it (no matter how long you have it on). They can get really hot in a hurry.

Re: how long....

It's safe for as long as you can afford the electricity (or someone elses!)

Those things are designed to run and run,. They use them on motorway repair sites during the night don't forget.

Re: how long....

In an open environment with no fire hazards, it should be okay. if the thing tips, it won't burn the house down. Technically you should be able to leave them on until the bulb blows, as long as it never poses a fire hazard indoors. :)

Re: how long....

feel the connector, is it hot? many electrical fires result from connectors that are loose internally or are not heavy enough to handle the load. keep your connectors well maintained.

Forget how long you can run it... how do you get the damn thing in there in the first place?

Re: how long....

I was in a class once where this joker got it in his head that he wanted this eerie cold light blasting out of two windows at night. So he demanded that his fellow students set up two HMI PAR 4k's inside the house, bouncing off the cieling to get the right angle, and set up two smoke generators to get the atmosphere.

I was watching this all come together and I kept saying, bad idea....that's a bad idea...

The fire department was there 10 minutes later to reset the alarms triggered by the smoke and the student was forced to repaint the ceiling in the room. Needless to say, he didn't get the shot.

I've got some safety/basic electrical articles on the filmmakers wiki:
