You guys are preaching to the choir here with this post. Find some "Filmlovers.com" forum and post this same question there. Or ask people out there now in the Hollywood film industry (that do it for a living). See what they say.
90%. All we can do is take blind guesses. That's a complete changeover for Hollywood and there's a lot of history there to call about such a sweeping change. As far as I know most film students still learn on film, and they hold it higher than digital (the one's I have talked to at fests). There's a history there with that medium and a level of prestige from working in it. That's why you probably don't see too many top schools teaching the history of DV. It's still a footnote.
Shouldn't we all be driving around electric cars by now? Why aren't we? We are more than capable and have been for some time. There's more things to consider in this scenario and more factors than just, "I shoot digitally for my xxx thousand dollar productions and two blockbusters were released this year that were shot digitally and that means in a few years everyone will". I don't think anyone can guess or assume that yet. Sure I want this to happen too, and sure some young new filmmakers in the machine are going digital and other old-schoolers are maybe open to it, but not everyone in Hollywood is Robert Rodriguez.
