I understand this is a 'piece of string' question, but I have an HVX200 and I'm planning on getting the Brevis 35mm adapter, if Brevis ever responds to my email. 
These are the elements I want to eventually have in my set up:
HVX
Brevis + a selection of lenses. Um, which are different lengths, or something.
A Mattebox of some kind
A follow focus of some sort (I'll add this later on)
I know that's still fairly vague, but I figure it's better to have too much than not enough, right?
What's a good, safe length that will hold everything, but not poke eyes out?

For the HVX, 45cm will work great with what you've described, and if you plan on doing a shoulder mount rig, 60cm.
