You know when you're watching a documentary, and they are obviously using a still, say of an old photo, and rather than just dumping a still on the timeline (boring) they produce an effect that looks like they are slowly zooming in on the photo. How would you do that in vegas?

You keyframe a zoom in pan/crop.

There's a timeline at the bottom of the tool. Set a keyframe where you want the zoom to start, then set a new one where you want it to end, then zoom in to where you want it. Play around with lengths of time to get the speed you want.

it's fabulous for documentaries - you can zoom (in or out) and pan and rotate - and it's very quick and easy with a little practice.

if you have a lot of photos to show in this way, be sure to vary the zooming/panning/etc and its speed to stop the audience getting bored.

And always start with high-res photos - it makes the zooming etc smoother

Taormina > just for the record. Its called the KEN BURNS effect. Since it was introduced by a noted documentary guy and named after him. Its a wonderful way to bring life to static images on video. You could also animate a blur to become clearer as the photo zooms in giving a more 3d effect to it.
