How hot does a tungsten lights get?

Okay I tried to search for this, but couldn't find any thing. I know the bulbs themselves get super hot, but does anyone know how hot the housing on a typical tungsten light gets after it's been on for awhile? Lets say for example a 650 fresnel? What about a 2k fresnel?

I'm getting a few Moles that could use a new coat of paint and I'm debating about getting the actual paint from Mole or finding a similar color of powder coat. Figuring the coating would be more durable in the long run, but I have no idea exactly how hot the lights get.

I actually repainted some moles last year with heat spraypaint from Lowes and then covered it with some non heat spraypaint. It's held up okay, but if I were to repaint them in the future I would try the mole paint to see if holds up better.

My 1k, I am guessing, heats up to 200-400 F when on for a while. However, that's only a guess.

As far as the housing temperature, it depends on the instrument and the lamp used in it. But it is a a safe bet that the temperatures reach upwards to 350 to 500 degrees.

Now for the paint. Go with the Mole paint. It is designed to take the punishment of these temperatures plus the rapid cooling on cold days. As with any paint on metal job, always sandblast, or at least sand as much of the old paint off as possible. Then clean the surface before applying paint.

Thanks for the info. I figuered the temps were around there, guessing even the bigger lights probably don't go much past 500-600 degrees? I'll probably pony up and get mole's paint, but might try to powder coat one of them and see how it holds up. I know they powder coat air cooled motorcyle engine jugs that probably get to around the same temperatures, so it should hold up temp wise the same, but I'm guessing the powder would be more durable.

Yeah I'll probably strip the old paint off and give them a good bead blast and cleaning before doing anything else to them.
