How hot do lights get?

really, I'm wondering becaue one of the thingys that the barndoors and/or speedring on one of my peppers broke off and I was thinking of JB welding it on.

Once i was using a set of worklights, at night, and we suddenly smelt smoke. we panicked for awhile then realised it was coming from the lights. immediately we switched them off and realised that there were burning insects on the lights

I've torched many a bug with my lights. I had to dump about a dozen off of my lower barndoor one night while shooting my ZombieFest entry.

I once produced a tradeshow video for a company that makes thermal imaging systems. They have something that looks like a radar gun. You aim it at a subject and it will give you a readout of the temperature of the subject. They made the thermal imaging units that you have on police helicopters to track people in the dark. Cool stuff.

I asked them to aim it at the video lights we were using. I can tell you that a Lowel V-Light we were using to light up a greenscreen was at 420F after about 20 minutes. That is seriously hot. The Arris don't get as hot, I would estimate closer to 300 degrees. Lowels run really hot.

As hot as... ME.

They can get really hot. In the studio, we have just some basic lighting, and it'll burn like you wouldnt beleive. I cant imagine arri 650.

and many a tungsten filament has been know to reach about 3200K...

Continuous lights aren't called "hot lights" for nothing!
