how good are lowel lights?

Lowel lights are meant for smaller shoots, where you might have to work as a one or two man production crew for a corporate or documentary shoot.

Yep we use them at work as our standard 'interview' kit. I love the portability and ease of use with basic light setups.

The Lowel lights are really the only lights I have used (got to love going to high school for a video program and being the only kid who cares, thus meaning I can borrow what ever gear I want) other than work lights and cheap LEDs. I got to say it was a nice experience but I felt like I was lacking control that I sometimes wish I had. I agree with David that the Tota light is quite amazing for being so small, in fact I plan on picking up one or two soon as I am starting to build my own lighting kit since I am graduating from high school tomorrow.

being focusable and with barn doors, dimmers, a bunch of c-47s, gels and black wrap. i find lowel pro lights very easy to control for smallish (interview and general effect and fill) uses

Another thing I think that made me felt like something was wrong was the fact I didn't know as much about lighting and have spent more time reading about it lately. I mean the light was always harsh as I never diffused it or had a softbox and that was the look for I was trying to get most of the time. That and when I was borrowing my school lights I was learning about three point lighting and I lit everything that way, thus making some things look very unnatural. I just now want to try out some more lights like maybe rent some Arri lights and give them a try and some kino flos and see how they all work. I have read about them online but I'm just a more hands on learner.

RealFilmGeek, me and you are the same, I'm graduating tomorrow too and I'm also the only one that care in my video production class. What are your plan for the future?
