You didn't happen to find this 'internship' on Craigslist did you?
There is nothing professional or logical about the situation you've described....like others have said, jump ship before it takes you down with it.
The whole thing sounds scammy to me.
I'd get out. If you love the work so much that you are willing to put up with this there are many opportunities out there for you to be paid, and paid well for doing it. No one needs to work like that.
Yeah, I am alone in the editing bay. The guys that run the production company have been actors for about 20 years and they've been making films for around 15 years now. It's very fast paced and they want me to edit as fast as they shoot. But obviously, shooting quickly has it's downside when you don't do it correctly. I went in yesterday and they had dumped 367 clips into a folder on the hard drive. No shot list, no slate, no logging info or identification of any kind. Just raw clips, which I then had to go through and try to match the shots from the three different cameras. 30 minutes after laying eyes on that folder with all those clips, he comes in and asks if I have anything cut together yet. I really think they are nuts. Or maybe I'm nuts for dealing with this. I just love the work itself and I tend to be a workaholic and have a problem jumping ship once I've committed to something. I think after this show is done, I'll let it go. I'm looking for other companies to work with, so hopefully this will all be a thing of the past pretty soon.
By the sounds of it, you'd be much better of spending the remaining time looking for a real internship and with your daughter. Don't waste your time with these jokers.
Your original question, how long does it take? I remember reading somewhere years ago, about a 2-5 minute per day rule of thumb. It's amazing how accurate that figure is in my experience. There are situations where you might be pushing a few seconds, or others where 90 minutes is possible in a couple of days ( when edited in camera ). But generally speaking on most edits 5 minutes is a good rough guide.
OK. We can all agree that these guys are pretty unreasonable and leave it at that. 'Nuff said. You've got the right idea.
While it's tempting to ask who they are and where we can see their other stuff, that's not really in the spirit of DVXuser, and would conflict with the 8th P. So, good luck, Godspeed, and we'll wrap this up here.
