Do you have aspirations to make it to Hollwood? Do you just like making movies even on VHS? or do you wanna see your masterpiece in theatres?
Why do you like making movies?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Interesting question

I have had an opportuntity in some fashion to get involved in the local film industry where I am at (Hollywood East) but have turned it down due to my 7 1/2 year old son. I'm just too involved with his life to commit to 12 - 14 hour days, 5 to 6 days a week.

I don;t mind helping out my friends and associates (Which I have done), but just cannot commit to a 6 week gig away from him. He's my main monkey man.

Sides; my goal is to be Herr Direktor not Joe Schlep Cable guy.

If I make it due to my own owrk and reel, then I'll have my son with me during it.

Winning an Oscar would be great; but really, just making some money while doing it would be fine for me. Paying the bills would make me happy.

That may be the difference between those who do and those who do not, but my son is too important not too know during these crucial years.

i have aspirations to make it OUT of Hollywood. and the primary motivation for me is collaborating with other artists -- actors, cinematographers, writers, musicians, poets, painters, etc. if i can make just enough money to be self-sufficient at it, i will die happy.

I've been "scratching people off" my Oscar acceptance
speech who pissed me off since I was 7 odd years old.
No shi*.

Edit:
I've also been sidetracked by the stork

Yes Zak !

To further elab

I have ZERO desire to work in the biz; so to speak.

I just want to create. If I get noticed via the festival; it'll be a fun ride, but I've been to LA a 100 times, and I have zero desire to work there. My dream is to be the Roger Corman of my locality; either Cape Fear or San Diego; wherever I end up.

Direct to DVD, Cable, SciFi ...

Now don't get me wrong; I WANT to make a Schindler's, a Goodfellas, a Taxi Driver ....

But I'm not gunning for the Red Carpet. I'm too much a Kubrick with my Cave Dweller need for personal time. I don't fly, I'm picky about my friends and inner circle and frankly, am just too laid back for the HoWood experience.

very nice reply, for me, i love shooting features even fun ones like this one

World domination FTW!

hehehe... I am not doing this for money or fame, but I would very much enjoy having a positive impact on our society. I was tortured beyond belief by my classmates though school... then it turns out THEY were the ones that were narrow-minded... not their fault really, the media in Argentina is as vicious as it is out here... proof is our first place in the world's bulimia and anorexia indexes together with countries like Venezuela... here it is more about materialism, but it is all the same in the end if you look at if from a standpoint of the effect it has on how happy we live. I hope to help people accept who they really are and celebrate our differences.

So the "world domination" bit is a bit overstated, no plans of becoming king of all media, but I do have quite the gargantuan goal.
I might not achieve my goal, but I will only be happy if I spend my life trying.

Not a lot of people answering this one I see

As I always say....

"Fame isn't something I crave... I just want to be able to make movies!"

but to add...

I do have a passion to make very specific films that have a message that I believe will impact humanity... I know it sounds all epic, but I'm serious... but at the same time I also have films I want to make that are just fun!

It is a good question.

Certainly, my aspirations have changed over time.

I started out screenwriting without any desire to direct. I only later realized that I was a director in denial. But the thrill in getting across an idea is still what it's about to me--whether writing or directing or editing.

I've worked in Hollywood and loved it. But the fact is, Hollywood is not driven by the things I care about. Hollywood only pays those things any attention at all because sometimes they get worshipped by people (and they attract money and power as a result).

But when it's really hard, and I'm over-tired, and cameras are too heavy but I recall that ideas are so light and reactive, then I really wonder why I'm filmmaking.

I'd like to build a whole NEW Hollywood on the east coast -- one that can compete head-to-head with Hollywood, making movies equal in quality and getting the same kind of wide distribution. But I want to prove that you can make great movies without wasting tons of money, the way Hollywood does. Movies don't have to cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make.

I'd like to build a new Hollywood that gives equal time, money, support and respect to movies with conservative or Christian messages as well as those with a liberal bent.

In short, I've given up on believing that Hollywood can be changed -- but I do believe it can be replaced.

Oh, yea, helluva'lota'fun too... Making something that's balanced, and therefor something that is beautiful, is something that I could spend my life doing. So I will.
I wouldn't limit that love I have to just movies though. I can spend hours Photoshiping one picture or trying to learn how to make a website.
However moving pictures with sound is as complete of a medium to express yourself though as there is right now. Other than video games perhaps, but making a movie that people will want to see is hard enough for right now.

I don't want to change people, just inspire them to question if they should change themselves. I'd like to have a positive impact on making the practice of celebrating out differences a "cool" thing to do. I wish I lived in a time when intellectual achievements are valued as much as material achievements are now.

My goal is to be a director in the vein of Ridley Scott, but own all my own equipment like Peter Jackson. Kinda like a full tilt production house. No clients - just my ****. Like it is now, except with fame.

I'm kind of with Callaghan. If Speilberg and Scorsese aren't eventually in my rolodex then I will have missed something, I think. That being said the whole "business" thing is less important to me. I've always taken great inspiration from American Zoetrope and the Coppola attitude that you can make films anywhere. If I could recreate Zoetrope (sans the near bankrupcy) then I will have accomplished what I set out to do.

I admire Hudson's focus on his son. My kids make the career goals more slow going, but the childhood I give them is more important than anything else I can do in the world. If it weren't for them I would have moved to LA and fought my way through the ranks years ago. As it stands I do what I can, though a few too many 14+ hour days have slipped in recently.

one day i hope to walk into blockbuster video and stand next to the section where movie is displayed. if anyone recognizes me, i will act really offended and argue that the guy on the dvd cover looks nothing like me.

I can't imagine a time when I wouldn't be happy to see my movie in the video store, or on Amazon.

Then the person who 'recognized' you says, "Oh, sorry. Just as well -- that guy's acting STINKS!"
