How does this look?

Hi,

I am buying a DVX100 for my new film and here are a list of accessories and supplies I'm planning to buy as well but because I am new to this I don't know If I'm missing anything or if incompatibility issues are present. Can you guys please help me and tell me if everything checks out, if I'm missing anything, etc.

1.Letus35 Extreme - $1000 - $2000
2.IndiRailsPRO Rail System 18” - $129
3.Follow Focus - $300
4.Manfrotto 503HDV,351MVB2K HDV Tripod System - 75mm - $655
5.Ikan v7000 7” LCD Monitor with mounting kit - $500 http://www.ikancorp.com/pages/monito...0_dk/index.htm
6.Glidecam 4000 Pro - $430
7.Glidecam Camera Crane - $480
8.Glidecam Smooth Shooter - $1400
9.4x4 Mattebox kit - $600 - Will this fit onto the DVX100 and/or do I need some type of mount?

10..6x Wide angle lens - $500
11..7x Wide angle lens - $900
12.Canon EF 85mm Lens - $300 - $400
13.Canon EF 50mm Lens - $80 - $100
14.Canon EF 28mm Lens - $180

Do these Canon lenses need something else to be attached to the camera or do they just fit right to the Letus? Also, do they come with the lens hood? Will the 4 x 4 matte box fit onto the Letus/ Canon Lenses? Is the Ikan monitor and mount system good? Is the indierail system good?

A lot of the equipments seem to work at cross-purpose with each other. For example, you don't need the wide angle adapters if you're gonna be using a 35mm adapter; just buy wider SLR lenses. Also the Glidecam system might not support a full 35mm rig. You might have intended to switch back and forth between bare camera and the Letus, but this always take up precious time on set.

The indiFocus system won't work with 35mm lens; you would need the $389 geared version for that. I would recommend the 30'' rail instead of the 18'' if you intend to add FF and mattebox (and make sure that the mattebox has a 15mm rod clamp).

Do you already have a Canon DSRL? EF lenses don't have iris ring, requiring a camera body to change iris. I use to have an EF mount for my Letus, but the workflow was too troublesome so I sold it.

That Ikan, like most monitors out there has a low resolution of 480 x 234, and it's composite only to boot. Don't count on being able to focus on it; but it might be useful to just have a bigger monitor. Also you will need a monitor hood for shooting outside. Get one for the DVX as well.

Yet more important components that I don't see are lights. Looks like too much is budgeted for the "cool" items like crane, steadicam, adapter etc. A steadicam will take you months to learn, and adapter and crane both require extra setup time on set. From what I see here you can easily trim the fat and budget $2000-2500 for a tungsten or flourescent light kit that's going to make all the difference.

In addition to lights you'll need a small audio kit as well. Mic, boom, headphones, and cable at the very least.

What Monitor and Rail system would you recommend that could support 35mm? Should I get a monitor that can be placed on the camera or one I can screw to a separate tripod. And I can't find the rail system you recommended on their website.

And what is the canon DSRL? No, I don't have one.

Sorry, I mean DSLR, or their still camera body. EF lens doesn't have iris control, so you need to attach them to a still camera first, change the iris, and then put them back on the Letus.

Monitors for the DVX is pretty much a lost cause because that camera doesn't have component out.

I don't like the IndiRail because it offers zero adjustability, hence the low price. Buy something like the Cinevate, Letus or Zacuto rail and those systems would work much better.

You may want to get a better tripod setup. Not sure how that would hold all that gear.
