How does one go on the "talk show circuit"?

I make movies for conservative audiences and I'd like to get on talk radio and promote my movie. I was curious how people do this. Typically if some writer comes out with a new book on gun control or health care, they will interview with all the local talk show hosts.

Would a publicist be the person I want to contact? Anyone have experience with that?
 
If you don't have someone who does marketing, maybe hire one. Else, draft (again, maybe hire someone) to do a really good press release about your film that points out you are available for interview.
 
Book publishers and movie studios have publicity departments that will reach out to TV & radio talk shows and various news outlets to raise awareness of a book or movie. You can also hire a publicist to do this for you, just make sure that they already have a track record of getting some people onto the specific shows that you're trying to get onto.
