How does one do these video effects?

What are these effects?

As some of you may (or may not) know, I am more of a shooter than an editor. I recently crossed another video person at a bridal show and saw the demo reel they had running which is a little more effects intensive than ours. I am mainly asking about the effects in the first minute or so where there appears to me many screens and video's flipping around and floating from one to another. It sort of looks like the storybook effect I've seen a few times before from I movie. Some of the other stuff I am familiar with such as the frame grab and filter to BW. Sometimes when video frames are moving around it appears as though something is shining the background.

At this time I am an edius person for my editing needs due to the multicam mode. the question is, when it comes time for the wedding montage as well as any other montage type things like this, how can I achieve similar flashy effects without breaking the bank? What plugin or other software do I need to do this?

It wouldn't surprise me if that is some standard naff plug-in that they have used because it looks so bad it would surprise me if they have had to work on it at all.

You can do that and a zillion times better stuff if you get yourself familiar with After Effects.
