How do you write about production?

I'm currently writing a proposal report, but can't seem to think how I should write about the preproduction and production of my film.

The thing is my film is different and intends to use the same cinematic formula as films like cloverfield, the last horror movie, and the blair witch project.

What do you need to talk about in those areas when proposing films like this?

I would describe the style in which you will be filming but leaving out the above-mentioned films as visual references. Instead, use a term like "documentary POV (point-of-view)" or, well, just "POV" in general when refering to these films. You want the reader to know the scenes will be shot as it's spontaneous and self-shot, so describe it as such.

List the equipment you intend to use, how you plan on filming it and always describe it in a visual way so the reader will be able to see how you intend on doing this.

It's hard to do but I can give you some examples of this if you want.

Examples would be helpful thanks.

Its just a matter of putting them into words when writing about those areas (preproduction and production).

Also I have a question, this may sound like a stupid question, but is the production in a film proposal basically a treatment?

The production included in a proposal is not a treatment nor should it be considered as such. A proposal can be one page to several pages of the five W's of your idea (who, what, when, where and why) and how you intend on doing all of them in your film. However, this doesn't mean the production part of the proposal can't be used in the actual treatment later on either, it'll just have to be expanded on more in depth.

A treatment is more detailed... it takes the five w's and expands on them with examples of how you intend on filming certain characters/people in various scenes and it really gives a visual for the reader of your character, settings, scenes and how they are to be set up. A treatment is the longer of the two as well. I've seen treatments run several pages, almost reading like an actual screenplay in some cases. Obviously, a treatment is used or needed after a proposal is submitted, when the interested parties want to see how you intend on filming and to get a bigger picture.

I'll find some suitable proposals and treatments to send to you soon.
