how do you use your h1?

i have an audio only-a radio gig-where i'm thinking of using the zoom h1.

at different times, i would use several different mics-(lavs=sony ecm 77/55 + rode ntg1 + akg93 + re50bd) wired to a mixpre (which would provide the needed phantom power and clean pre-amps).

i would then take the mixpre 3.5" line out and use the line in on the h1 as a digital dump.

thoughts?

by the way, how do you use your h1?

thanks in advance for sharing.

be well.

Sounds fine. I'm sure it will be a fine "bit bucket." I honestly have had no problems with the H1 as a recorder, for live events/ ambient, as a back-up for video sound, or as a stereo mike set using it as a pass-through to another recorder.I usually use it in the studio to sketch ideas, when I'm too lazy to set-up mikes, patch-in preamps, and mess with the computer or stand-alone hd recorder. I might use it on a little video shoot tomorrow (no biggie; son's school project).GJ

I have an H2 - about the same but 4 mics instead of two, and worse preamp - that I quite often use as a plant mic to get sound effects from the set, such as placing it by the door that is going to be slammed etc, and sometimes also bg. The internal mics on these cheap recorders are a bit too noisy for my taste, but for medium to loud sources they work fine, and as in your intended usage, it can also be a bit bucket/backup recorder. If you have a bag of some sort the H1 will be fine, as I've heard it's a bit fragile. Personally, I would invest in a sony M10. It's more sturdy built, has internal omni mics that are more quiet than the H1 cardioids, good preamps, a line in that takes a professional line level of +4dB, and lasts about three times as long on two aa batteries (which makes it cheaper in the long run).
