There's some kid six floors below me earning his movie money (sorry, that would have been the 60's) expensive Japanese sports car payment, by pushing leaves around. He's using a nine million decibel four stoke V8 leaf blowing machine without a muffler. All I'm able to do right now is sit here at my internet helm and cringe. I want desperately to lob something heavy in his gravitationally fed direction. I wonder why we as a species feel the need to clean everything up. I'm betting those leaves have a definite place in mother natures grand plan, probably a natural mulch or something...But I'm no botanist. Anyway we as humans don't want to see the damned things accumulate, so we round all the useless leaves up with a huge, noisy blower and send them to the landfill to fester. So this kid is on patrol with his noisy backpack blower making me work out weight trajectory issues in my overtaxed brain. It wouldn't be so bad but I just came from work where a gang of hoodlums from the city engineering department decided to dig up the road. They use something akin to the common leaf blower in size but the noise level rivaled the Morton Thiokol solid rocket booster specs. And yes folks, I counted...It took exactly fifteen of these people to dig this hole. Now I'm going to assume for fun that they each make twenty bucks an hour, let’s see, it took them three hours to dig this hole and another two to fill it in and smooth it over. That's a fifteen hundred dollar hole and I swear to you as god is my witness, nothing came out of the hole and nothing went in. When the hole had been dug, a guy with a white hardhat waddled over and looked in. Once he'd seen enough, he nodded to the guy in the blue hat who in turn nodded to all the yellow hats, who then filled the damned hole with dirt again. At best I'd have to say I saw a make work project or City engineering hole digging practicum for this cities new draft of hole diggers. I dug bigger holes with my Mom's silver service cutlery when I was a child! It took me one third of the time and I dug it for a reason. Although the reason escapes me now....No wait, I was going to visit China before dinner time. Anyway, the leaf blower has corralled his last wild leaf, so all is quiet again, I can get back to my study of how many car alarms go off in my neighborhood FOR NO DAMNED REASON!!!!
I just wanted to rant once on the new board....yeh, I'm junior mino, but I still got a voice:engel017:

Prepare for his next visit. Gather up a bunch of leaves in two or three large garbage bags. The next time he shows:
  • Have your camera setup and filming the guy.
  • Wait until he has just finished the last leaf.
  • Unload all bags of leaves of off the roof.
Laugh your butt off as the leaves start falling all around him.

ahhh, lawn maintenance days.... reminds me of the day I moved in to this place. I took a shower upstairs and was coming downstairs for something, still soaking wet and wrapped in a towel. Not the regular bath towels that can wrap all the way around you, but one of the older worn out ones that seem to be the only ones you can find when you are looking for the other larger nicer towels...and this one had holes in it. It was such a nice sunny morning, I thought I would open the vertical blinds as I passed them in the livingroom, so I reached up and opened them to fine myself face to towel with a very surprised lawn maint guy. I was so shocked to find someone standing there I dropped the bottle of lotion I was holding, but I acted like it was no big deal to see him, and calmly walked away in my towel to the downstairs bedroom. When I came out, dressed this time, there were four men tending the grass outside my glass sliding doors! hahahaa!!!!! :)

Oh, well, I think what I was trying to say is that maybe you should walk around wet and mostly naked, looking at him thru your window unexpectedly, and it could possibly have the opposite effect, I would think. :)

Human species has an urge to pollute - you can't breathe, you can't drink even the rain water, you can't see the stars, you can't hear the birds anymore. I am so frustrated - and I am not even a tree hugger.

Mino, I feel for you. Throw something at him the next time. You've got my permission.

Thartley, something about your towels, bath robes, and fluffy slippers make me think you are a very attractive (and careless) woman! You really need to pay better attention to how you dress when you face a possible exposure. (cough, cough).

Now, I wanted to add a smiley to that, but haven't figured out how to do it ....

:-)

Aha! Here come the smileys (smilies?)
  :cheesy:    :undecided :smiley_up  :lipsrseal :) :embarasse

:engel017:

haha!!! Looks like you just had a litter of smileys!

And on the other, I just like to be comfortable. No fuss. Low maintenance. But thank you anyway. heh!

:)
