How do you think this was done...

You guys are talking about the shot in the flea market right?
The over the shoulder onto Pierce Brosnan.

Watching it frame by frame it almost looks liek the guy and kid in the foreground were composited into the shot.

It kinda reminded me of an effect I saw in a Michel Gondry video for the Rolling Stones, where he would morph between two camera angles that were shot right next to each other. That isnt' the same effect as here, but similar.

EDITED TO ADD:

Watching it again it looks like the footage I've seen shot with 3D lenses.
Someone posted a link to a company that made these recently.... I"ll see if I can dig it up. Looks a lot like the sample footage on their site.

looks like they were shooting into a mirror that was moving. look on the right, you can see the guy in fg facing us has a reflection.

that looks like a longish lens...maybe 100mm+, so you could hide a camera someplace dark...like that patch on the top right.

if it was a processed shot, it would be pretty simple.

shoot a plate over pierce's shoulder with that guy in the fg and a green screen behind them. then flop the camera 180 so that you are facing pierce and the back of the guy in fg and then shoot that plate with a hand held camera...something funky. then just comp them together.

EDIT:if had to guess it looks like one of those classic scenes where he is following someone and just at the right time a plane of glass or wagon or food vendor gets in the way, but this times its a mirror, and he sees himself...which would play into the idea of the film, that the huner becomes the hunted...anywho...just a thought...

Imagine if you will... a long, teeter-totter type apparatus, only mounted on a big beefy ball head. Mount camera WAAAY down at one end, put a person or two at the center for a stable reference (you can see the guy on the left wiggle in time with the camera movement), shoot actor WAAAY down past the other end.

If it's not CG, that's how I'd rig it.

I was going to wait and see how many would jump on board to start construction on my anti-CG see-saw, but I couldn't bear it.

It's a mirror. Remmington Steele is looking at himself and the Bad Guys coming up behind him. I think there's some crew to the right in that stall with all the towels.

It looks like three different layers, guy and kid, Brosnan, then backround of brosnan, all moving independently composited together

Looks like one of those shots you see on Fear Factor when the person has a camera attached to them and when the person moves they are stable but the background is moving. This could be a body double of Pierce and he is standing on a moving platform with the camera...just a guess

?

I'm buying RL's mirror

John - I like how you added a white background, rounded edges, and drop shadow to the image. Those Photoshop Tutorials are really paying off. :)

Too bad he doesn't have a wacom tablet!!! Or your handwriting sucks!

The more I look at it now it seems it's a plot thing and not a special effect. I think I saw a Leica lens in there too... Hmmm

Thanks for all the help on this.

Thats not a camera...

its obviously an alien.....durrrr....you dont get out much do ya?

...to think that was a camera...HA....i chuckle in my little tin boots.

I dont get something..why dont they just paint it out in post??

duhhh

if it was on a green screen...the could easily paint out the camera if it created a reflection, then do the chroma keying..

Hmm

Nearly 200 hits on this thread and nobody's even mentioned...

THIS LOOKS LIKE A REALLY STUPID MOVIE!!

It looked good up until just after that point in the trailer.
