How do you tell where center cut safe markers are without a special monitor?

When shooting something that is supposed to air on TV, you're supposed to shoot it with center cut in mind. That's a 4:3 aspect ratio, but that's hard to do if your camera (black magic camera) doesn't have built in markers. So what's the best approach to this if you either don't have a monitor, your monitor dies or you just want to save some money and not spend $1,000-$1,300 on an HD/SDI monitor with markers for every camera you own?

I heard of some people buying screen protectors and cutting out a frame border to see where the markers are and laying it over. Some have even scoffed at the idea of needing markers, that they can tell by looking at it. Thoughts?

From memory when we had one here for testing you could activate the framing overlay on the SDI output, but I do not remember it having many options. We decided to pass on the camera as it's lack of tool set outweighed it's 13 stops of dynamic range for the type of work we do.
