How do you store your gear?

We've all seen photos of eachothers setups. But what kind of space do you use to keep your equipment handy?

I'm going through a crisis finding a system for organization for my actual gear and supplies. I live in NYC and have very limited space to keep my stuff in. I have large bins filled with everything from grip supplies to cables to actual lenses (! yikes). But everything gets lost in there. I only have a few lights and my tripod is small. My whole setup isn't too big since I don't have a car. The big stuff isn't the problem anyhow. It's the little stuff and the fact I don't have a lot of space.

Does anyone have a shelving system to recommend or better yet any photos!?

Milk crates, they hold a lot and can be stacked.

Before I moved into my new house I was renting a room that was about 11x11. I had a bed, TV, dresser and a corner of the room was a stack of 7 milk crates and another stack of 5. I had an entire 1/2 ton grip and electric package in there. For some of my more delicate stuff, such as my cameras and mics, I hung a shelf. C-stands can cram in pretty tight to one another and my light stands were bundled together and tucked up close to the c-stands.

It is all just about being efficient with your space, learning to store your gear in a space saving and accessible way will really make you a great best boy too.

Now I have a huge garage with industrial shelving and a spare bedroom that I store everything in.

There should be a NYC (or a large city living small storage) thread. I use a few Helmer metal cases from Ikea for tapes, wires, attachments, and then the rest of it is on a bookcase and below my desk. But it isn't ideal. I'd love to see photos of smarter storage solutions specifically for video people.

I use a series of Pelican and Storm Cases. I don't do this for space reasons but because it keeps everything organized. Everything has a place and it stays in that place while not being used. Plus Pelicans and Storm Cases stack easily. And when it's time to hit the road for a shoot...just grab the cases and go.

This may not solve your storage issues but it is a simple approach that serves several purposes: convenience, easy storage, organization and protection.

I have a couple of Pelican hard shell cases for the "delicate" gear and either
Petrol or Porta Brace soft bags for the rest.
