how do you set the length of imported photos?

Ok that actually did not work for me. That's what effects the duration of clips when you take a freeze frame from the video.

I did find a solution though... simply highlight all the images and then edit the duration of one of them and they all shrink down.

No, that is the default for Still/Freeze duration, not just freeze. You asked for an option to choose how long photos will be when they are imported. And this is that option.

Note that this will not affect any stills already imported - only those imported after you change the settings.

and I think, you must start a new sequence also after making the preferences change.
