How do you put a video on a DVD for a festival? What I mean is, do the festivals require that your video plays automatically once the DVD is inserted in the player, with no required menu selections etc. So if that's the case, how do you make your DVD so that the movie starts instantly with no user selection of menu items required? And is this the way festivals want the DVD's created?

The festivals don't require your DVD to play automatically, as long as it plays. So it's on you whether you want it to play automatically or not. But me personally I would not have it play automatically.

As far how to put the video on a DVD, it really depends on what Editing software you are using. Final Cut, Sony Vegas etc..., then I would go to that forum and ask the question. I use Sony Vegas/DVD Architect and it gives me the option to create a Single DVD(plays automatically) or a Menu base DVD. It might be different depending on what DVD Authoring software you use.

Here's a nice thread about how to better your chances at getting into a festival, check it out.

Thanks, I'll follow that thread now. I was wondering because I was just at a festival and each film just played rapidly after each other as if they just started automatically, they didn't seem to have to make any menu choices. Maybe they had two projectors ....

I recommend finding out the submission requirements of the festivals at which your movie has been excepted. Many are open these days, but requirements vary for festival to festival.

If you use DVDSP then select the movie track as "first play".
