I've never shot squeeze, but if I were you I would just apply the effect on a short part of the clip, render, and export an uncompressed movie. Watch it in Quicktime; even burn a DVD of it if you can and you feel really nervous about it. FCP often make things look less good on the Canvas than they would on-screen.

yeah that was the next option I just thought someone would know

Masking effects

Masking effects

If it's squeezed (software or anamorphic lens) you shouldn't be seeing a mask. It should fill the full canvas.
Did you shoot with a mask in camera? (i.e. is this DVX100 or DVX100a)
If you're masking in post then add the mask last.

it just shows up in the canvas already in a widesreen format..using squeeze mode and FC 4.5 Yet when I drop an effect on some do it over the black that is at the top and bottom of the screen....I shot in squeeze and captured using the widescreen setting...

If you shot squeeze and imported as 16:9 you should be using the 16:9 layout, which I believe gives you a 16:9 Canvas, eliminating the letterboxing.
