How do you like my Poster Design?

Hi all --

I am starting to design the poster/flier for my documentary movie about Jazz. How do you like this design? I tried to keep it similar to classic Blue Note record covers, with symbols of piano keys (the black keys at the top with trumpet playter, white keys at the bottom with the city). What other information (text) would you put on the poster?

Anyway, what do you think?

Cheers!

First I would invert the color of the background. I would also change the font of the title to the one you have at the bottom of the poster. Put the title in the middle of the poster. Just my opinion.

I really like it. I dig the design idea, with the piano keys, trumpet player, and the city hot points. The only thing, and I'm not sure if its the font of the title, the title itself (which I'm not suggesting you change), or the graphic styling of the city but this poster is very reminiscent of a city festival or town celebration which is about to take place. All you would need is "July 11th & 12th" underneath the title. I know that it says "documentary" towards the bottom but it has an "upcoming event!" vibe. Perhaps moving the title, changing the font and inverting the background color would do the trick, like Evan S suggested?

But, so far, its very good and very close.

Much, MUCH better.

I would try one with just "A Film by Stefan Immler" centered and up top, solo. Underneath and dominating the poster real estate, the graphic. Then, underneath the graphic, "District of Jazz" centered and fairly large to distinguish the title from your other poster points ("A Documentary Movie About...." and "A Giganova Production"). But, the title doesn't have to be too large to bring it home, imo.

I preferred it on white, it felt more like a blue-note album cover that way. I agree on changing the font though (but I'm still not mad keen on it - but it is deffinate improvement over your original font)

I also agree that your title is set-out enough from the artwork and the positioning of your "a film by.." could be better.

But I love the artwork...I'm a big fan of the blue-note records and sleeves!

Congrats and well done. Who is your film about?

I would recommend an overhaul on all of the text. It looks very flat and not really aesthetic. Go find some Photoshop tutorials on text and you'll find something awesome, methinks.

There isn't enough contrast between the bg and the parts, with the black it is too dark. Try a bluesy background, a little darker than the water.

What the Capt said. Maybe a blue a little lighter than the water. Also, I'm not crazy about the title font. You might want to check out some old Blue Note album covers for font inspiration.

Oh, are those supposed to be piano keys? I think I just figured that out after having seen this several times today.

I'm not crazy about their layout ... too random and disorderly for me. And, as others have pointed out, the titling needs different fonts and treatments.

And yes, a light, faded blue bg would be nice.

I like the last one. Something that bothers me on poster is when they have certain letters capitalized.

I would do it all caps, DISTRICT OF JAZZ.

I like the sheet music touch.

I also keep wanting to say THE DISTRICT OF JAZZ.
Sounds better to me for some reason. I'm not here to change your title or anything, just stupid nitpicking.
