How do you keep the white flash inside the squeezed frame??

Yeah...
you know when you add a white flash and it covers the complete screen? How do I keep it within the frame? I played with it all day yesterday and couldn't figure it out. I made a little teaser for a film I'm working on and you can see what I mean here, it looks kind of bad that way:

Any ideas??

thanks!

The letterbox mask should always be the very last thing you apply to your film.

Now, go back and apply a mask (pan crop) to cover up this.

Could you take me to the beginning? So when I start a project, I start with the option of editing it on 4:3, right? Then, I apply a widescreen letterbox to it? How and where do I do this?
thanx.

When your film is cut and all effects are in place, you use Pan / Crop to apply your letterbox mask. Use either the drop down to choose your desired aspect ratio; 16:9, 1.85 or apply custom settings for a 2.35 ....

When I edit, I shoot DVX100 flat (4:3) and chop it all up, then I apply my grading and other fx crap

When the cut is complete; I apply the mask.

All FX and Color Correction stay under this.

In your case, it appears you applied the letterbox first and then applied the flash.

Did you shoot letterbox in camera ? Nevertheless, just cover it up !

Yes, you're right. I first applied the letterbox and then the flash. I also shot in squeeze mode.
I played around with the event/crop and got to do what you suggested, I cropped it down to widescreen, it worked fine! However, I tried some new footage where I applied the flash and then tried to crop it to widescreen, and it still showed the flash going off screen. When I click on the event button of the flash effect, I don't see an option for cropping it. Am I missing something here? thanx!

I still haven't been able to solve this problem. :crybaby:
I must be stupid or something.
I put a video on the timeline, uncropped, then add the flash transition and then apply the widescreen mask to it and still it doesn't work! What on earth could I be doing wrong???

The flash effect will fill the whole frame. If you're cropping to 16:9, work in a 16:9 project, so that the flash can only fill the 16:9 frame.

HOw do I work in a 16:9 frame? Could you please show me that? I think that's what I'm doing wrong. I can't get, for the life of me, the flash effect to stay within the widescreen frame. I even tried putting a black solid color on top and another one in the bottom, but it doesn't work either.

Choose a Widescreen project.
