How do you guys meet other filmmakers?

I have the hardest time meeting other filmmakers whose heads can fit through the doorway. Seriously they think because they know what a direct cut is they are orson welles. University Film schools have the worst turnout as well.

I rarely meet other 'filmmakers' but I dont exactly run in that circle either. Everyone I 'meet' are on DVXuser.com lol

Re: How do you guys meet other filmmakers?

Yeah it sucks. But really, how many people out there want to be filmmakers unless you live in Hollywood? :P

You can sign up and register (FREE) at www.indieclub.com.

At Indieclub you will be able to network with not only filmmakers but all sorts of people that could possibly make up a crew! I registered and posted a small profile about what I am doing and the kind of projects that I want to work on and the next day I got an email from female who is a writer and then I got another email from someone that was looking for some on air work as a host. I have not used either but the site is good way to network. You can also locate people in your own state on that site as well that may share similiar interests. You can't go wrong here on the DVXuser site though!

Re: How do you guys meet other filmmakers?

IndieClub is an interesting place. There are some good people on it, and a lot of 14-year-old "I wanna make a movie, what camera should I buy" types. It gets quite personal and political at times, so I don't "hang out" there anymore, but:

A friend of mine spent $27,000+ and made a film that was actually pretty good, and it went nowhere, and it sat on a shelf for a couple of years. He found IndieClub and started talking to people. He got opinions on his film. He decided to re-cut it and see if it could be improved. He found a special-effects artist who did phenomenal new scenes for it. And he found a producer's rep/distributor who took it to the AFM and apparently had very good success selling it. So instead of it sitting on his bookcase, he found enough good people to get it updated and actually get it out into national and international distribution and may even make a profit on it!

So there are some good people on IndieClub. There are something like 20,000 members. There are actors, artists, producers, writers, distribution reps, all sorts of people over there. But there are a lot of flamers and nitwits too, so just wade through the muck and you may find what you're looking for!

Would this be a Pat Kerby project? If so, can I buy it somewhere?

Re: How do you guys meet other filmmakers?

Barry your right about there being some "nitwit wanna be filmmakers" on that site. The one question I always ask people is what have you done or What kind of equipment do you own and know how to use! Hey a lot of people have all this fancy equipment but they do NOT know how to use the stuff! Usually those questions will weed out the wannabees from the ones that have a passion for what they do.

That one is not a Pat Kerby project, although Pat does have a feature-length project I'm trying to arrange distribution for now. Pat also occasionally checks in on indieclub.
