how do you guage action/title safe in squeeze?

whats the most popular method for making sure youre framing is good when youre shooting in squeeze mode. i want to make sure the closeups fall inside the viewable frame. or, since its 16x9 on a standard tv and full screen on an anamorphic tv (if i render as a 16x9 dvd), does footage retain its full viewable frame? just started shooting today and on the closeups i wasnt too sure how it would turn out eventually. couldnt tell too much as our monitor was 4:3.

Totally depends on the shot. The image is overscanned on the LCD so although your sides will remain the same, the top and bottom will be different in squeeze mode when it is finally displayed in an "auto letterboxed" fashion such as a DVD. Without a switchable monitor to see what you're getting, you may end up with more headroom than you want. However, once you get a sense for what you're picking up in the overscan area you'll be able to judge easily without a monitor. If your monitor has an underscan switch, even though it is still stretched, you'd be able to see what you are capturing at the top and bottom of the frame.
