How do you get your movie into blockbuster, or lions gate?

Some of the shittiest movies on the planet have come through lions gate's sewer distribution system.

So my question is, how would you get your film on someones desk there for review or distribution.

I went to their website and found 0 information on it.

Anyone know how to do this?

So if I follow you correctly, you want to be distributed by "lions gate's sewer distribution system".

Now there's a winning attitude, I can see you'll go far.

I can't honestly answer your question but I would start referring to it as something more faltering - Just a tip

Darn you guys!

I don't have a feature length film yet. I was just curious how these people with 0 budgets are finding homes with distribution. IE: Lets say I DID have a film, most likely it wouldn't be highest quality, I know lion's gate distributes very low budget films. Many of which it looks like they didn't even watch.

I've seen some truly horrid creations which I have NO clue how they made it into blockbuster.

So anyone got any ideas?

What film with 0 budget do you see at Blockbuster? Even some of the utter crap has a multi million $ budget...

I think he means that those crappy movies, even though they DO have modest budgets, don't look like they do. Not to mention sometimes the acting is sub par. Is that what you mean?

Maybe he was talking about:

Granted, they're not from Lion's Gate, though.

So you want to shoot a feature film, with zero budget, a truly horrid creation, not of the highest quality, that no one at Lions Gate would watch, in hopes of getting into Blockbuster?

I think you might be setting your goals too high.

Get it made, get it into festivals, hold distributor screenings and invite as many distributor reps as you can get to go (if you're lucky one or two might show up).

But in most cases, as far as I know, the filmmakers aren't making much if any money off their DVD releases.

Many from festivals and many by the producer hustling the product around [and a crap load of luck.]
A lot of dis deals don't have to be bought. A distributor can make a deal for just residuals after his costs and the filmmaker will likely makes bupkiss. Put a snazzy description and label on a DVD and some will sell. You can't assume by seeing a movie at blockbuster that it made money. You could unload your movie for a couple thousand to a distributor with hopes of residuals and the couple grand is all you'll ever see, even if you see your movie @ Blockbuster.
Selling a movie is not much different then selling a script - Good luck getting it seen if you don't have representation or know someone. Festivals are nice because the right person might see it and hope to make a few $$ on it.
If a distributor can make 30K on a 5K investment why not...
Even internet traffic can get exposure now a days...

There are a ton of different ways but it still boils down to pure luck - This is all assuming the movie sucks as you say. If you are the rave @ Sundance, you will do fine.

You can also go to the film markets. But remember it's all about attachments in Hollywood. Who's in your film? This is the biggest of all attachments. It's a tough road, but occasionally unknowns get noticed.

Has anyone sold a feature here? Did you sell to a number of distibutors (for TV, DVD etc) or just one?

I presume that if they think they can make money of your film, they will buy it. They don't care if it is any good. However, they often won't think they can make a single penny on most films!

I've spent the last year or so seeking out the very worst movies I could find. There are a TON of severely crappy movies that look like they were made for about $1.50 in my local video store (many of the released by Lion's Gate). We're talking about someone grabbing a VX1000 on full auto and shooting a movie with available light or work lights.

I'm now convinced that just about any piece of crap I shoot could be sold for distribution as long as it's running time is at least 75 minutes. I'm not kidding.

I hope that is the case. I would love to sell a movie without taking on a second mortgage first.

I have been thinking about this alot lately, because it does seem as though every single horror film gets sold and distributed, no matter the quality. But what about other films, they usually fester on the festival circut- even the good ones. Well, after talking to a few of these folks, it seems its true- BUT... non seem to make any money, they might pay off the credit card debt they incured, but as far as actual payment goes they would have been much better of at a McDonalds. I guess the best you can do is make a film that is for yourself (one that you would want to see), hope that an audience shares your tastes, and start going to festivals. If you make the best film you can, you may not get distribution, but you can look yourself in the mirror every morning. But if your tastes run towards horror, you definatly have an edge. Just realize that distribution is far from riches and accolades.
