Director Mod
Guys,

Its knocking me sick, I've been trying for a long time now...:(
Any ideas on best ways to contact email vs s.a.e. DVD??
I've been trying to get music video rep, I've shot things for Atlantic Records + other labels, seem to be knocking my head against a brick wall. Or is it just a case of touting yourself about forever?
Maybe its my reel, maybe its my work...I just don't know anymore...
I'm hurtin...:)
HELP!

For the most part, music video and commercial directors don't have agents (unless they're a big name and have a film agent as well). Rather, you shop your work around to production companies in hopes that one will sign you. Usually the deal is that they employ you exclusively for the duration of the contract and you can't make videos for anyone else in a given market (so you could be repped by a prod co in the US, a different one in Canada or Europe, etc...). So your best bet is to find companies whose work you admire and go after them.

Your reel should be a short montage (2-3 min) of your work. A good idea might be to have the montage play when they put the DVD in, and if they want they can go to the menu and check out some videos in full. I've heard that three is a good number of vids to have on there, but make sure they are all good. Putting one great one and two OK vids on there will not help you.

Good luck and happy hunting!

But you don't need to go looking for an agent, they'll find you. I don't think finding an agent should be a priority in the same way some guys look for a girlfriend. The same tactic works well for both, just do what you do well and you'll be courted soon enough. At the end of the day, it's one more person to pay.

You might be asking a different question, how to get into commercials or feature film work or television episodic work.
