How do you deal with color and gamma shift?

Hi all,

I'm a mac user running Lion and I keep on having headaches when dealing with gamma shifts. I know this is an old issue but I would like to discuss it with you and I hope you can help me to establish the best workflow.

Usually I work with Premiere Pro CS5.5 but recently I'm giving a try to final cut pro x. The way they handle gamma and colors is different.
The screenshots I attached here come from quicktime and VLC. What I see in QT is exactly what I get in FCPX and, on the other hand, the screenshots from VLC match what I see in PP.
VLC/PP not only have different gamma from QT/FCPX but also saturation changes. The footage tends to be more magenta/reddish as well.

I know I could set Quicktime preferences to match color with FCP but that doesn't help. I just get an image which is darker than FCPX, therefore I loose consistency between these two guys. Saturation and colors still don't match with Premiere and most important I'm not even sure my clients have QT7 installed and can enable this option!

I noticed also that Vimeo is much more consistent with PP/VLC rather than FCPX/QT.

So, depending on your favourite NLE, what do you expect when sharing a file with a client (apart from any consideration on his monitor calibration of course)?
How do you manage to keep consistency as high as possible along the pipeline to let your client see something similar to what you get on your mac?

Thank a lot for your help!
Best,
Diego
