How Do You Create Gun Shot Effect In Vegas?

Do you mean a barrel flash? The flame coming out of the gun?

You can do it by manipulating a gradient in the Media Generator, but it would be a lot of work for an effect which would probably not give you the results you actually want. You'd probably want to create it in After Effects or another dedicated effects-creationg program.

Your cheapest bet would be Particle illusion 3 or something like that. Or you can also buy effects cds which have avis wih alpha built into them. These disks come with explosions, smoke etc etc. All with alpha (that means there are transparent areas in the video) which will allow you to easily mix the footage within vegas. You can also try using some mix modes like add, or overlay etc with a normal video. Use pan and crop to make the fire video small and fit onto the location of the gun barrel. Also theres a cheeky technique. Try getting a photo of some exploding flash or a gun flash from a dvd or something. The higher the resolution. Now the trick is to make this image flash on and off at high speed (strobing). For a single gun shot just use one image for about 3 or 4 frames duration. For a machine gun Try the strobing 4 frames of flash 4 frames no flash and so on. Make that into a video file. Then overlay this video on the gun opening and use mix modes such as overlay etc.

They have muzzle flashes you can use as a top track, then key out the black and line it up with your gun with the cropper. I used the "cannon" muzzle flash for shotgun blasts in a short I made and I was pleased with the results. I also shrunk them down with the cropper. It's free too (the cannon one).
