How do you convert 60i NTSC project to PAL

I have a finished project that was edited on a 60i/NTSC timeless. Now the client wants a few copies on DVD that are PAL. Whats the easiest and/or cheapest way to do this?

Do it in FCP? During DVD authoring? Have a dub house do it from the DVD or MiniDV? Please give details. Thanks

I know you can use Discreet Cleaner to do that... I would assume that Canopus does it too. It takes a long time to convert though. You'd want to export an AVI or Mpeg and then run it through one of these programs.

There may be an easier or cheaper way but I haven't heard of it. I remember back when I was faced with this situation and I didn't want to wait for it to convert, so I was going to try exporting my footage to a PAL camcorder, but I guess that wouldn't have worked.

Use QT Pro which comes free with the FCP package.

I went through this last year. Chances are 90% that your pal DVD player will convert/play the NTSC dvd just fine.

Or you could try

I was asked to do this exact thing yesterday by my client. Unfortunately, they didn't own DVD Studio Pro, so I figured out an easy way to do it with iDVD.

The first thing I did was export my NTSC (I wasn't working in 24P) sequence as a Quicktime. I then re-imported the Quicktime file into FCP.
I then made a new PAL DV sequence and dragged the Quicktime into it. I scaled the clip 120% (because NTSC is a smaller resolution than PAL) and rendered. I then exported the PAL sequence as a Quicktime.

In iDVD I set the preference to PAL and then created a new project. That was it!

I'm sure this is not the best way to do it yourself and maintain the visual quality, but it works in a pinch.

My question is: how do you make a SECAM DVD for France?

Answer -- it is damn near impossible. SECAM, as formats go, sucks. It sucks so bad that I do not think there is a DVD MPEG-2 version of it. I think that French DVDs are mastered in PAL and conversion happens in playback, but I am not sure. I just know in my analog days SECAM was a headache no one wanted.

Thanks for everyones response. I was worried that I was going to have to re cut the project. Any last posts/ideas before I try it?
