How do you archive a project?

How do you archive a project? I’ve got files pulled from dozens of different folders on my machine, and dropped into the “Media Bin.” Now I’ve finished my project, and I want to make space on my machine for new work, and I’d like to have a way to backup all this source data so I can restore it if I ever need to.

I noticed there is no function in Vegas to “Package” all the source data – which would be my first choice for small projects. For anything large, it would be nice to at least have a way to get a text file listing of all the source material (Files and Paths). While I can see that in the media bin and write it down, I don’t see anyway of exporting or “text” copying that information so I can paste it into a Word doc.

Anyone have suggestions on how to archive a project?

Not true -- you can "Save As" and check the option to save copies of all project media with it.

Maybe you could get an external HDD (they run about 50 cents a gig these days, or better), make a folder on it, then save your project to it.

As for the "text," you'd Save As an EDL.

Let me just say that this forum rocks! I contacted Sony tech support about the archiving of projects several months ago, and they simply said it can't be done. Searching the help files didn't get me anywhere either. I missed that little check box on the "Save As" menu. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks so much! This is going to be a life saver :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I ran into a problem with archiving my project. It appears that if I have a nested project, the nested project does not get included in the "Save As." Has anyone else noticed this, or maybe I'm just doing something wrong?

LOL...Yeah you'll are right. Its the same sony tech guys who told me that Vegas simply cannot render dolby stereo files. Its either normal stereo or 5.1 ONLY. Then i started arguing technicalities and they argued back that they knew what they were talking about and that i should take a hike. How do people like this get selected for a tech advisor job by a company like sony media ?
