How do I unscrew a Manfrotto 3063 head from the gear shaft?

I cleaned up an old Manfrotto and planned on using it as a high hat. Problem is, I don't know how to remove it from the aluminum gear shaft. I looked aaaallllll the way down and saw a bolt, but I certainly don't have a ratchet that would reach THAT far.

Anyone got any non-destructive ideas?

There are set screws you need to backout before you can unscrew the head.
See where the bottom of the head is attached to the tripod? Look under the flange on the tripod...you should see some holes for set screws. Get a little allen wrench and loosen those. You can then just unscrew the head off the tripod.

I hope that is clear....let me know how you make out.

And that's why I love DVXuser!!!
Thanks Zaza. That did the trick.

I'm think about putting this baby on a slider too. I guess we'll see.

Thanks again

Hey Zaza. Another question for you.

I'm torn between building a small 3 ft crane or building an IGUS slider. Do you think a slider could be used they way this guy does at 1:11?

If I can get small jib-like shots with a slider then I'll go that route. My rig is around 10lbs though.

Thought you might "weigh in" about this.
(ZazaCast shakes his head).

Thanks again.

You can get some jib-ish shots by mounting the rail on a head. It's just tough to balance.
I use my sliders for slides & dollies...I use a crane for crane shots.
A tool for every job.

But, like I say, it works... try it... Here's some of the shots I got playing with it.
