How do I Trim or Fade multiple events at once

Re: Vegas Pro 8.0b

Hi guys, this seems like a really simple request, but I cannot find it anywhere in the help files or on this forum, perhaps you can help?

All I want to do is simply trim and or fade several events either across one track or multiple tracks at once. It seems simple enough, but at the moment I'm doing each event individually and this really sucks time like no one's business when you have loads of really tiny events all over the shop. If I use the selection tool I can move certain events all over the place no problem, just can't edit multiple events simultaneously.

Any guidance/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You want to fade out several tracks at the same time?

Easiest way -- make a track above all of them and fade IN a black card.

If you want to trim them all at the same time, select them all and press "G" (Group). Then trimming one will trim them all.

Or, if you don't want to group them (ungrouping can be tricky, because the audio will become ungrouped, too), simply select them all and press "S" where you want the trim to be.

Hi David, as ever, as super fast response from you :) Thank you.

What a great tip with the Black card above all other tacks, didn't think of that one, brilliant idea - cheers.

I use the "S" command to trim all the time, but what I really wanted to do was drag several tracks to trim as my trims change for every clip I'm currently doing.

I'd also tried the "G" for grouping multiple tracks to no avail, but I've just spotted that "Ignore Event Grouping" was toggle On in the top tool bar, which is why the grouping feature was having zero effect.

Thanks again David, you're also first to answer and thanks for the reminder about the grouping, it prompted me into double checking - Oops! Human Error :)

So, to recap for anyone reading this who may be curious:
I use the letter "D" to toggle between "Normal Edit" & "Selection Edit" tools in order to drag over several tracks I want to edit at once.

I will now use the letter "G" to Group those tracks in order to be able to fine-tune - "Drag/ Trim" both the start and end of those clips (events).

Finally press "G" again on all selected clips to ungroup.

Note: Using group does not allow multi track fading, but using the tip David mentioned in his response is perfect, so I'll be making use of that.

Phill, you can also use the "Fade to Color" track envelope. When applied to a video track, all tracks below that track are faded. When applied to the Video Buss, ALL tracks are faded. You can optionally specify the fade "from" and "to" colors. Lots of ways to do things in Vegas.
