Is it a loced down shot or a moving shot?

If it's locked down, it's easy. Just export>quicktime conversion>still image "TIFF"

Open in Photoshop, crop to the section do your thang on a second layer - save as a PSD

Import in FCP and drop on V2.

For a moving shot...man Commotion Pro used to be great at this, but I think it's a dead product since Pinnacle got a hold of it.

Guy Cochran's suggestion will totally work, as long as it is a static shot. I used the same method to get rid of an annoying rainbow doodle in the background of an interview we shot. I would suggest you make your patch a bit larger than necessary and once you import it into your timeline and position it, apply the soft edges filter to it to help it blend a bit better. Should look great.

Forgot to mention, that the reason to keep the Base Layer is to keep the Frame Size the Same eg 720x480 pixels- do not Crop the image in ps and change the size otherwise you'll have a hard time lining it back up in FCP

So in Photoshop "Duplicate Layer"
Then turn the eyeball off on the base layer (should be labeled Background)
This will keep the frame size the same and everything will line up perfectly in FCP.
