How do I put my MiniDV camcorder media onto my pc?

I have a JVC GR-DVM75

I have it plugged in and powered, I have the S-Video cable connected to it and my computer, I have a USB cable connected to it and my computer, and I have a DV IN/OUT firewire cable connected to my usb as well (ipod firewire cable)
Now it may be because of my iPod cable, or it may be that I have no earthly idea how to get my home movies onto my comp.

I have Avid Express Pro and Ulead VideoStudio.
The only capture device I have on my comp that is showing up is my camera which is built in the pc.
I need help here....
what am I doing wrong/right...and what do I need to do to make this work?

Hmmmm...

Have you tried disconnecting the PC CAM? Perhaps the other camera is not recognized? Sometimes you have to tell the COMP to actually recognize something.

Hmmm.....

Cant you just go FIREWIRE from Camera to FIREWIRE at tower? (Why all of the fuss with USB's)

I need to find that cable that came with the cam, or get one (firewire to firewire)

But even then I wouldn't know how to go about having the cam recognized
In the Ulead program lets say, how would I capture the complete video? it will auto detect the mini-dv and operate it remotely?

Well, my computer recognizes automatically the camera without telling it. As far as capturing, you just select CAPTURE but I have no IDEA what NLE you are using.

If you have a Firewire card you should have a FIREWIRE cable (Im assuming). Or run down and grab one ($15.00)

I need to get me one.......

funny thing is...
I'm used to working with BETA SP tapes, and digitizing it through Avid on Mac. And I can't do this ****....haha.

Get a firewire cable that goes from your camera (4-pin) to computer. (there are 4, 6 and 9 pin firewire connectors on computers so check first before getting one) It will be a 4 pin on one end to whatever on your computer. (6 pin is the most common)
