How do I keeframe a filter?

In other words I have a shot that pans up from a bar and then looks into a kitchen. In the kitchen I want to place a color grad filter to be at the top of the frame. I don't want this color to exist except in this one position (not sure if I'm making sense). So the effect is that as you pan up you see the filter come into view as if it were light naturally hitting the top of the frame. I know this can be done, but for the life of me I can't figure it out.

Thanks,

Matt

Go into the filters tab, and look at the right side of the window. You can keyframe everything there.

LMAO!! Yeah, that much I figured out. Ok let me reword the question.

Ehem... My name is Matt, and I'm an idiot. I understand that there is a way to keyframe stuff in FCP - the books tell me so. I even know that I can set point in the window thingy at the right. Everything else I read is clearly beyond my feeble understanding.

Effects List (Effects tab in Browser)
Drag over Custom Gradient to above the video clip in the timeline you want to add it to.
You'll see a solid gradient
Make sure it's selected.
Menu = Modify -> Composite Mode -> Screen (or whatever mode you wish)
In canvas you should see a blend of the grad with your image.
Go to first frame to see grad.
Double click on it in the timeline.
You'll see your gradient by itelf.
Click on Motion tab
Click on Plus sign next to word Center.
Click in Canvas and move gradient where you want it.
Now set a key by clicking on diamond right of center numbers.
Go to the frame it's supposed to stop moving.
Repeat same process of center and moving. Keyframe will be set automatically.,
