how do i hook my camera up to a sound system

hello to all,

I worked a youth benefit in a school auditorium and I used my shotgun mic because i did not know how to connect my Dvx100 to the school sound system. can anyone help me out with this so in the future I wouldnt have this problem

Not sure I follow what you were trying to do.

Were you trying to record something or just playback a tape on the DVX through the sound system?
 
You would need a feed from whatever mixing board the speakers are connected to. Find the technician who is in charge of setting up sound and request that they let you connect an XLR cable from the board out to your DVX, and set the input on the camera to LINE instead of MIC.
 
I find that getting an XLR feed is difficult sometimes. If they don't have the ability to do it you'll either need an adapter to go from 1/4' to XLR or to record to a separate device.
