How do I export correctly for YouTube?

I don't have time to really compare & contrast your links just this moment but.......

You know Media Encoder CS6 & up have templates for both Vimeo & Youtube, right? They work great for me.

I think compression is just part of the equation in getting your video to look like the one you linked to, but that's a whole other thing....

Cher Amadou,

I actually think that your video looks quite nice for YouTube, especially if you select the HD play option. I don't see any real problems with the compression

I looked at your links, and I believe that the difference has more to do with production quality than with compression. The first video that you posted obviously had a big budget for a set (instead of a green screen), for some serious lighting and color grading, and for a high-end camera that shoots in 10-bit 4:2:2 (at least). What are you shooting with?

I bet that if you experimented with your lighting and set design, you would be able to emulate the look of the other video. For one thing, it's much more "contrasty" and has been graded blue. But seriously, budget; there's only so much you can do to compare. I know that more robust codecs do a better job handling compression, so that's a part of it too.

Rather than comparing your results to other studios' work, where you have to guess how much money they had and how they achieved their result, are you seeing a big difference between the quality of your video pre-compression and post compression? What I am getting at is that some of the blocking that you see in your video may have more to do with the camera's original codec than with just the compression. Maybe you could post two side-by-side screen shots, pre- and post-?

Bon courage!
