How do I backing up media for long docu?

I've been working on a verite doc that will take at least 2 years to complete and already have about 65 hours worth of tape. It makes me anxious that all of the tapes as well as hard drives are in one place. The problem is that I shot with the JVC GY 100 in 720 P. Although I have the special JVC deck, I can't make saftey dubs of the tapes unless I either 1) spend $3,000 an another JVC deck or 2) Downconvert the tapes to SD by dubbing to another SD deck. Neither seems acceptable to me. Other options: Load everything I've shot on to hard drive and copy to another hard drive and store off site. The problem with this is that I'd have to fill up the hard drive first before copying to the other. Another is to copy the quick time clips from each digitized tape on to individual DVDs (very time consuming). Please let me know if you have any suggestions or share how you back up your media and projects. Thanks!

Whoops forgot about this thread. Yes, most anyone makes safety dubs for everything. I'm working on a doc right now and the producer was being a bit tight w/the purse strings about making dubs, and I couldn't believe it. An extra $3 per tape is a pretty cheap insurance to protect interviews that cannot be shot again. You could also capture to your computer then record that capture back to tape. It's slower than dubing tapes, but I've done it when I couldn't get my hands on another deck before.
