How do I achieve this effect in Premiere or After effects

[themogul504]

I am trying to achieve this small square effect in either after effects or premiere pro cs5. The effect is at 1:30. I tried to figure it out on my own put the video just crops or stretches.

Thanks in advance,

Put five copies of the video in the sequence. Crop the left and right of each to suit. Add color effects as desired.

Thanks man you are a life saver. Never thought of that. Video editing is more like problem solving...

Or 1 video layer and create 2 color mattes (1 red 1 orange) in PS that are the same size as your source. Import em into PP and change the opacity and place em on top of your video layer.

your right. some of the coolest edits or fx are just simple tools used smart.

The color matte idea would not allow each "ribbon" of video to come on separately. You need a layer of video for each to do that.

Thanks for the simple analysis of that layering, thks i had been curious to how it was accomplished as well, thank you!

Thanks for the input. whats a good intermediate format to convert 550d footage to make it easy on an older computer?

That's a separate question that should probably be asked in a new thread.
