How do devote 100% of your time to your movie

I have a childhood friend who is also a director, so I've been following the production of this first feature, Chicago Rot. What really pisses me off is I don't get how they are making this movie, and shooting during the week and stuff without having dayjobs. While I am stuck designing websites all throughout the day.

This is his first feature!

I don't.
I sometimes work 14 and 16 hour days (8 or 9 at my day job then come home and work 6 or 8 on whatever my current project is). I haven't had a weekend where I just bummed around and didn't do something towards one of my projects in three years. My shoots are usually three day weekends with a vacation day burned to get off on the Friday.

No, I meant financially independent. The show obviously has a budget. . . to hire crew, cast, production costs; and most likely a directorial fee. Most productions have a budget. For this guy it's his day job.

Here's the trailer to the film, it looks AWESOME!!

The main crew is 5 2009 graduates from a Chicago film school. It is partially funded by kickstarter (25k) and there are investors, the main one is a friend of the writer. All in all prob 100k to 150k film. But I still don't get how they can do this fulltime. Even with the investors, I don't think they can cover the salaries of all the crew!

It's really just a matter of doing it and taking the risk to put it all on the line. Not all of us are able to do that, unfortunately due to other obligations, etc...but there's no crazy explanation. It's as simple as that.

Also, financial independence doesn't have to be permanent. Making a film can be your vacation. Instead of saving up for the plane tickets, hotel and food, save up to pay your own expenses during production.

what you should try to do is be born into a rich or middle class family that is fulling willing to support you in your film endevaors. Or strike it rich first! Or never sleep and work like a dog. aww yeah!

I shoot my films on a cell phone camera laddy!
