you, know- find out about it.

me--I think I followed someone's sig link on 2-pop.com.

Since then, I've never gone back. Does it exist anymore? I think they killed the dvx forum, anyways.

Re: How did you arrive initially at this site?

Right as the DVX was coming out, I had read about it in a magazine, I kept searching websites trying to learn as much as I could about it, settings, controls and so on...
I must have gone through around 1,000 different sites, the camera was released, and then I found this one...Of course I didn't post for the first couple months until I could afford it...

So...I guess...Yahoo.com...

Re: How did you arrive initially at this site?

Two months ago I visited the states (to see family/friends and buy a DVX). Everyone had high-speed Internet, so I was surfing like a mad man! I must have clicked on every DVX100 link on the web. Then wah-laa! DVXuser.com popped up on a Google or Yahoo search. It was like finding a support group for something you know absolutely nothing about. I was hesitant to buy a DVX (way out of my league) but when I found DVXuser.com I felt, if I ever get in over my head, somebody here could teach me to swim. And you have. Again and again. Thank you DVXuser.

Re: How did you arrive initially at this site?

It was October 2003........
The place we bought our DVXs is a rental place in DC, I think the business has split up and the main guy left.  We went to look at a GL2 and we were going to get that.  The guy didn't have any, but they had just received a shipment of DVX 100's.  We opened the box and a bright light with angels singing sounded forth from the box...... a tear rolled down everyone's cheek.  We plugged it in and were given a quick basic tutorial on the camera.

I then began feverishly searching the web for any info on the camera and I found DVX User.com.  I searched it and kind of hung around for a couple of months and then decided to join last January.  Now we have four cameras and there is no looking back.  In fact I now remember little of my life before the DVX..... it is all a fading memory.......

I came about 'so' close (holding my forefinger and thumb together) to getting the XL1s. It turned out to be a scam (typical e-bay 'use my escrow service) but since I was not raised by wolves I was able to see through it.

I was totally hyped on the Xl1s (I sheepishly confess 28 Days Later had me seeing delusions of granduer). I remember seeing the release advertisment for the ag DVX100-24p and the hype (is it hype if its true?).

So, I took a step back and started researching like a senior thesis project. I stumbled across this site from www.dvinfo.net when I saw Jarred post something with www.dvxuser.com attached on his sig.

I came over, registered and asked the first question we all ask "Is the DVX100 really a better camera than the XL1?"

He pointed me in the right direction and I am so happy about that! I love this place. The sense of community is wonderful; I feel like you all are my virtual friends and would love meeting you guys (well some of you ::) ) one day.

I love where this site has gone; in the direction of the independent filmmaker and not neccasarily the 'videographer' (not that theres anything wrong with that) angle. It seems almost everyone who participates here regulary has the same dream "To become a filmmaker." Theres alot to be said about so many people having the same goal and we all use the same equiptment (more or less).

Everyone is supportive, instructional and positive. We have working professionals here (yes, even at the mythic hollyowwd level) down to 14 year olds dreaming of being spielberg.

Im here to stay until Jarred makes it www.dvx-2-user.com

Anyway, Im getting misty. :D

Re: How did you arrive initially at this site?

I used to go to 2pop and it was from there I think or one of my other DVX surfing safaris that I would click on a link that said cick here to read the article. I would click the link and end up at DVXuser and it would tell me to log on to read the article. I,m lazy when it comes to filling out any kind of form online. I just clicked back and went on my merry way. But one time the article was way to interesting and I unlazed myself long enough to fill out the user info and Kazam.......I never looked back. Funny now I can't find any of these articles anymore. Sure glad I stopped smokin that shite!

:'( heh

Ya know, I almost got burned buying an XL1 too, right before I bought my DVX. I wonder how many of us would've bought an XL1...weird...

Re: How did you arrive initially at this site?

I totally was going to get an XL1s.

I was researching and preparing to buy an XL1s. I had a film due (for a class) in a month and a half, and I really wanted to step up the production value of my shorts. Durring a google exploration I cam across a site comparing the XL1s and the DVX. They went on to rant about how much better the DVX was, but they were bitter because they bought it and then the DVX100A was released.

So it got me looking into the DVX, tons of sites that I went to said "go to dvxuser.com they're a great, friendly community."

So I came... 2330 posts later and I couldn't be happier to participate in this community. You are all my brethren. :)

Thanks for the help and the laughs.

The one I started to eat before I got all generous was probably butter rum.

Hey..... upload the white one!!!

Re: How did you arrive initially at this site?

I was doing my second short and I was hoping to find a better camera than my zr-20. I posted on a local website looking for a DP to work for free (I was really hoping for a free camera loan, but I figured having somebody along for the ride who knew how to work it wouldn't be bad.) I had a few responses, including a guy who wanted to shoot it using his bosses dvx. I hadn't heard of it (knowing only of the xl1 and gl-2) so asked him for info, which he was happy to supply. I googled it and found another site (that I don't remember) which was waaayyy over my head, but there was a link to this place. The rest is history. There has only been one other discussion group (a general one, not a filmmaking one) that I've been on that has near the level of intelligence and respect that this one does, and that one charges 10 bucks a month.

Great thread pooh

I gladly call John Hudson my mentor. Hell, he carried my fathers watch in his ass for two whole years!
