How did they get this shot?

Ok so not only is this music video pretty darn good 7D work, but its got this one snoricam shot i cannot wrap m head around.

At 0:20 you'll see the funky over head snoricam shot, but this shot should really be impossible to pull off without visible rigging. Or a large glass dome that is somehow fixed to his hat/head. But none the less im dumbfounded. Any help?

Wish that wasn't the case. Would like to figure out how to do that without the time needed to edit out the rig.

In the event of no-rig-removal, my answer lies somewhere in the hat.

If you look at 0:17-0:18 you can catch a glimpse of his hat at the top of the frame, which looks different from the hat scene in the particular effect. This could be due to lighting but something about it just doesn't fit right with me.

Yeah. It looks like they just took a still of the hat from the top and used it to cover up the camera rig attached to the guy's shoulders.

if you look at 1:49 you can see there's some sort of like camera or something on the steering wheel after the shot of it. just putting that out there.. haha

Looks like there's shmootz all over the lens right before he jumps in the water. You'd think they would have cleaned that up as well.

Very cool shot & video!

Ok here's my guess. They used a similar concept to that of catadioptric fisheye lenses that project a fisheye image off a mirror which is mounted in a clear dome with the camera pointed at the mirror.

In that process you get a really wide fisheye image but there is a small circle in the center of the shot that is the camera/lens.

here's an image of what im explaining:

The camera used for that shot:

Now Im not saying that used this same setup, but similar. Instead they mounted the camera where the mirror would be, and the dome screwed into the filter ring or some thing. then on the end of the dome was a metal pole like the photo above, and that went into a helmet which was disguised as a hat. Then all they needed to do was minimal editing to get out the small black circle on his head.

Here's my drawing of what my idea is... haha:

Oh ****! good call. I can tell there using a gopro camera. That clears a lot up!!! they must have used a go pro on the shot at 0:20 as well! So scratch them using a 7D on the diagram I made and put a gopro.
