The 'super slow motion' type thing they have going on - how is that achieved?

Is it through the time remap in After Effects that creates new frames do you think?

Or are there other ways of doing it that are more Final Cut friendly?

AE can work, but it is better to overcrank the camera.

Twixtor can give super smooth slow motion. You can get a Twixtor plugin for FC.

The images appear to be 1000fps. Twixor or AE can do it bit you will have major motion artifacts.
