How come you can't tell the style of text until you choose it?

After Effects unfortunately applies the same problem that affects nearly all text-related programs. When you're searching for text through a list, it only gives you a list WITHOUT the actual look of the style you're applying. Therefore you have to choose it and apply it before you know what it looks like. Is there a way to have a list available with all the styles applied to the text in the list? Man, that sure would be helpful.

Thanks,
Chris

I usually just get the text box to be highlighted, and then scroll fast as I can with the arrow keys to preview.

Wes,
I will now stick a knife through my computer.

Just make sure you get it good the first time, so it won't have a chance to seek it's revenge.

To be a little more in depth about what I first said: Make sure you have the text you want to change all the way highlighted, and then click the arrow in the font box to select a new font (any font will be fine), then stop. The font box should be highlighted blue, now place your right index finger (preferably) and tap either the downward or upward error key to change a font.

Just a thought: maybe this technique only works with AE7.

Are you talking about fonts? If so, it's commonly referred to as WYSIWYG, what you see is what you get.

Either way, I use Font Explorer X, which is a free font management program, which makes it easier to scroll through lots of fonts and see what they look like. You can also type in whatever copy you want to preview as well.

The select text and then scroll thru font list is exactly what I do as well. Done that for years in Photoshop as well.
