How come no one talks too much about Mississippi Burning?

They only released the original version despite the academy awards the movie received. I love the soundtrack to that film because it adds tremendous power to the visuals. I especially loved the introduction scene.

I'd guess no one talks about it because it was made 20 years ago and isn't exactly a cultural touchstone to the degree of, say, "Star Wars" or "Citizen Kane" or "Gone With The Wind." It kind of came and went and that was about it.

I'll bite. Good flick, good script, and score, excellent actors. Great dynamic between DeFoe and Hackman... and Francis McDormand obviously pre "Fargo". It's not a preachy flick, I think it plays as a good crime drama on it's own... and as a side bar has historical implications.

It's one hell of a movie. Hackman rocked in it!

I love the scene where they bring in the FBI guy to play the role of the vengeful black guy.

It sure has gotten lost in time... it isn't even rated in the top 250 films on imdb, yet it was nominated for numerous oscars in '89 and won for best cinematography. As much as I enjoyed Sin City, it's a shame that it's rated 67 on the list and this film which is sooo much better on every level can't even break the top 250.
