How can I tack one file onto the end of another?

I am a Vegas 5.0 user.

I shot some live music footage with my Sony digital camcord.

I didn't want to capture the whole performance, only 2 songs, so I captured the 2 songs separtely, creating 2 files (of course).

Now, I want to have the songs lined back to back on the same track, together.

I tried having one file open (showing track of video and audio), then copy/pasting the other song to the end of the open file, but I couldn't copy/paste (option not there when I right clicked on the file I want to copy).

How can I tack the other file onto the end of the other to where the songs will play back to back on the same track?

Thanks.

My approach to linking the files is...

My approach to linking the files is...

I'll have Vegas 5.0 open;
I'll open one of the files (with the band on it, both video and audio);
I double click the file and it opens up on the edit track, showing the frames;
then, I select file/open and open the second song/file;
then, I tried to copy/past it, because with that file open, I can't see the first one;
so, if my copy/paste function don't work, who can I drag the second file to the first one (the edit track) if I can't see it?

The only thing I can think of is to copy/paste it to the end of the open (first) file, but the copy/paste function won't work.

Can you give me the right steps? Thanks.

Open up a second instance of Vegas 5 instead. Have each file opened in each instance of Vegas 5, THEN you can cut & paste one onto the other. Then close out the other instance of Vegas 5.

Why do you want to copy and paste it? All you have to do is grab it with your mouse and move it onto the timeline. You can do it from the media pool, from the Explorer window, from an "open as" window, or anything else you can see the file in.

I got the impression, the way he was talking about it, that these are two individual projects (different VEG files), because when he'd open one, the other wasn't visible/available, etc.

Since Vegas 5 doesn't have project nesting, I think the cut/copy & paste is his only option.

Tacking on files....

Tacking on files....

Yes, Norm. That's what I meant.

I select File, Open, find my folder, select the saved VEG file (1 of 2 files/songs), open one, then go back to File, Open, to my folder, and open the 2nd file; at that point it opens on top of the one already open, covering it up; so I can't drag one to the other, because I can only see one file open on the screen.

At this point, I'll select Edit, but the "copy/paste" buttons are not highlighted; I can't click on copy/paste; then, I tried to "right click" on the actual file (track) but there is not a "copy/paste" function there.

"Second Instance of Vegas"...Are you saying go back to my desk top and open Vegas again, and have 2 Vegas' open at one time? rather than having 2 files open at one time? If so, I'll try that.

I'm not getting that Media Pool thing. I'm at work, not in front of my system right now. I'll try again when I get home this evening. Thanks. :undecided

Yep, I think that's what they're getting at. Give it a shot.

Deno, I think Media Pool is only an option with Vegas 6, not 5.

Horse covered it ... that's exactly what I meant.

I got it, but...

I got it, but...

Thanks guys. That did it.
I "Imported Media", up came my list of files, I right clicked on the one I wanted and highlighted "select" and presto, the file entered into the media bin.

Then, I opened it, moved the cursor to the end, the repeated the process and the other file entered the Media Bin; I dragged that file to the end of the open on and presto, it appeared, open. I rendered it...and so on.

But...(as I'm learning Vegas step by step) the problem I have now is that, I put some FX on the footage, like brightness, black and white, film look, color balance, etc. (black & white on one file and color for other). and when I view it on my monitor, in Vegas, it looks sharp, just fine.

But when I burned it to a CD, then played it in Windows Media Player, the footage now looks blurry and not as sharp, the black & white footage even has dark blotches and is very blurry;

It's as though it was analog video, stepped down 2, 3 times. Why is it that, when I burned the footage/files to CD the image became blurry, blotted with dark areas, etc.? Why did it loose the sharp, clear presense it had when in Vegas and I was editing.

Recheck the size of your footage, making sure it was 720x480 originally. Also, double check your render settings, specifically the size & quality of your WMV file. Best render, full size or web (small), quality of video, data rate, etc.

Yeah, that helped/worked.

Thanks for responding.
I have burned a dvd twice in DVDA but now I'm having a problem with the formats.
I was advised to use an "avi" format when rendering in Vegas 5;
Then open DVDA and burn there.
The problem is that the "avi" format will not allow me to see the files as one file (like a media file); it has two folders, one "video" and the other "audio".

What I'm trying to accomplish is edit, render, burn a DVD; then upload it to MPeg Nation, which is a company that allows video streaming; the file can't be any bigger than 1GB, which the files I have are 10 minutes of live music footage, and 200 plus MB.

What I will try next is to render with mpg2 (for DVD's per my Vegas book), then I'll try to see if that results in one file (media file), which I can then go to DVDA and burn.

Thanks.
