How can I "split" a frame?

I've searched and searched the manual - all I want to do is use 50% of the frame from one take and 50% of the frame from another take and make it look seamless.

The shooting is already in the can - just can't figure out how to do the edit.

PLEASE help - going crazy and I'm sure it's a simple trick - maybe?!
 
If you want to do a simple split;
Put one clip on top of the other in the sequence.
Double click on top clip in timeline.
Click on Motion tab and go to crop. Move Left or Right slider to the center.
